01.04.05: IT’S WELLIES AT WORK DAY

A local firm of accountants demonstrated its support of organic gardening by turning up for work dressed in suits and wellies!

Burgis & Bullock’s unusual wardrobe on Friday 1 April was not an April Fools Day prank. The purpose was to help their client, the charity Henry Doubleday Research Association, based at Ryton Organic Gardens, to raise funds to educate and inspire people about organic gardening, farming and food. “Wear your Wellies to Work” day is part of HDRA’s Welly Week, a national fundraising campaign.

Commenting, Wende Hubbard partner says: “We were delighted to support our client with their fundraising and we wish them every success with their aim to heighten community awareness about organic horticulture and its environmental benefits.”

HDRA is a registered charity with the largest membership for an organic organisation in Europe. It was founded in 1958 by Lawrence Hills to encourage research into improving ways of growing plants organically.

The charity aims to promote, research and demonstrate organic gardening methods through their display gardens in Warwickshire, Kent and Essex as well as through their international development programme and their work in education.
